Why is the winter chill setting in early this year in Kolkata?

Why is the winter chill setting in early this year in Kolkata?

This is simply because there is low levels of pollution in the sky of Kolkata this year. The Government of West Bengal had been quite instrumental in pulling off old buses and old auto rickshaws (more than 15 years old) from the roads of Kolkata which used to run in kaata-tel (burnt oil) and thus increase the levels of pollution vastly. They have also been successful in converting the oil run auto rickshaws to green auto (Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) run autos). They have also increased new volvo buses that cause less pollution and are fuel efficient.

Thus due to the constant efforts of our West Bengal Government and other authorities the levels of pollution could be reduced to a large extent. So this made pollution levels come down. So the suspended particles (that used to trap the heat every year inside the city sky) was not present this year. Special thanks to Mr. Subhas Dutta for creating awareness among the people of Kolkata about the rising levels of pollution. Thus the heat escaped this year and as a result the winter chill set in early this year in Kolkata.

VAJRA - VOLVO BUS - BENGALURU

Vajra Volvo Bus (air conditioned)

Last month I visited Bengaluru and I had the good opportunity to travel by AC Vajra Volvo Buses that Bengaluru Transport Department has launched in the city for safe and hassle free transportation of commuters from one part of the city to another. The above is the photo of the air conditioned red colour Vajra Buses that ply across the city from Bengaluru Inernational Airport (BIA) to different parts of the city.

Such buses are a real need in our city Kolkata too. Our transport department should look forward to launch such buses in Kolkata so that people can have easy transportation in AC Volvo buses across the city. These buses are not only big and spacious but they take sharp turns even through the narrowest of lanes and they are so fast that they travel from one place to another in half the time that other buses do.

Bengaluru has launched around 500 such buses and so I request Kolkata to launch at least 100 such buses. This would definitely change the transportation scenario of Kolkata. People would reach their destination early and the journey would be hassle free. Though the fare is a bit expensive in Bengaluru, in Kolkata we could devise pass systems or bring down the fares for making more common people especially regular commuters travel through such buses.

2nd Metro Railway in Kolkata

We are going to have a second Metro Railway in Kolkata soon. I would like to discuss the boons and the banes that would follow it: -

Boons: -

1) We can reach Howrah within 15 minutes of Metro Journey from Bowbazar.

2) We can reach Salt Lake (including Sector V) withing 20 minutes from Bowbazar.

3) More people will be moving through this lifeline or East-West Metro Corridor as a result there will be less air and noise pollution in these stretch.

Banes: -

1) At least 100 buildings in B.B. Ganguly Street will collapse like packs of cards.

2) Many insane people will protest the building of the East-West Metro Railway.

3) Construction work will go for at least next 10 years in the new Metro Railway route with severe waterlogging during monsoons.

Sibkhali

Conductors of the local buses in Kolkata nowadays say “Chole ashun, chole ashun. Sibkhali, Sibkhali”. Initially I was very confused and thought. “Like New Town, is there a newly created place in Kolkata called Sibkhali?” I thought very profoundly, “Where can I find the place on the map of Kolkata. Even I thought the place might be somewhere in Bengal. I knew there was no such place in the Eastern part of India. So I tried to make a google search but I found nothing.

Later I found that every bus conductor shouts these few words at the top of their voices when the bus stops in any stoppage. Then I came to know that they actually say “Seat Khali” meaning “Seats are empty”. So the whole phrase means “Come on up. The seats are empty. Fill them up.” So from now on any bus that has empty seats in it must be called “Sibkhali”.

Bus No 240 - Bagbazar to Jodhpur Park - Best Bus of Kolkata

Bus No 240 that ply from Baghbazar in North Kolkata to Jodhpur Park in South Kolkata is the best bus I have ever seen in my life. As you read through the post, you will come to know about why I am awarding this bus the "Best Bus of the Century Award".

This bus starts from Jodhpur Park which is a very colourful locality among the South Kolkata Localities. It travels through the most colourful areas of Kolkata, like Jodhpur Park (Jadavpur University), Selimpur (Jodhpur Park Girls' High School), Dhakuria (Murlidhar College), Golpark (South City College), Gariahat (Basanti Devi College, CMC Gariahat), Ballygunge (South Point School, Ballygunge Siksha Sadan, South Calcutta Law College, Calcutta Girls Academy, Hazra Law College, Ballygunge Science College, Modern High School), Park Circus (Our Lady Queen of the Missions School, Lady Brabourne College), CIT Road (National Medical College, Holy Child School for Girls, Loreto Day School Entally), northern part of AJC Bose Road (Rafi Ahmed Dental College, Loreto Day School Sealdah, Nilratan Sarkar Medical COllege), APC Road (George Telegraph College, Sealdah, CMC Sealdah, Victoria College), MG Road (Surendranth College for Women, Chittaranjan College, Seth Soorajmall Jalan Girls College), College Street (Presidency College, University of Calcutta, IISWBM), Bidhan Sarani (Vidyasagar College for Women, Rabindra Bharati University, Bethune College, Scottish Church College), Hatibagan (Khudiram College), Shyambazar (Raja Manindra College), Sovabajar (Seth Anandaram Jaipuria college), Baghbazar. In each of this locality some or other Womens' College is located. So you can imagine the amount of colour the bus is treated with, during peak hours. The last stoppage is Baghbazar, which is an example of a posh/affluent Bengali Locality which has seen Kolkata emerge from a village to a city for over 400 years.

Sometimes during peak hours, one is sure to find the bus filled with more female population than male and that too between 18 to 30 as the bus passes Gariahat Junction and proceeds towards north. All of them well dressed, having a pleasing personality, they hail from good families. If you are a smart guy, you can ever choose your soul mate for life in this bus.

This bus has gained more importance as the South City Mall has come up. It is one of the few buses which lead us to South City Mall as the bus stand at Jodhpur Park is a few minutes walk from the mall.

My friend Gaurav has helped me a lot in gathering these data from the Internet. Kudos to him too.

The Actual Tata 1 Lakh Car - The NANO

Congrats Mr. Ratan Tata and The Tatas (TELCO) to launch such a sweet car (THE NANO). Being a True Bengali, I support their cause of opening a car factory in West Bengal where no company has ever dared to arrive. Thanks a lot to all those who made the Tatas come to Bengal. It is like a dream come true for all of us in Bengal. It is a mission-impossible made possible by Mr. Ratan Tata and Honourable Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya. Thanks a lot, Sir.

Kolkata fuming with angry Mob

It has been very difficult for ambitious people to stay here in Kolkata. This is because of the several incidents occuring here for some time now. First of all the Nandigram issue made the opposition call for Bandhs, Achals, chakka jams and many such political steps by the opposition to show their no-confidence in the government. Ther has been several such Bandhs and Strikes in West Bengal. If such situation prevails, the existing multinational companies would run away form Kolkata and no new companies will ever come here to set up their base here. It is going to create problems for the future of Bengal.

An incident popularly known as the Rizwanur Case has kept the people living in this area stay at their toes. They fear anytime an angry mob would start breaking cars, buses, trams, and hitting people whoever they see before their eyes. Thus common man fears to travel through Park Circus. It has been difficult for the City Police to tackle angry mobs.

Several such cases are causing Bengal to die a premature death. I would recommend all Bengalis living outside Bengal not to return to Bengal anymore and I would like to tell them that they are much better off there in other states.

Just as I am writing this post, people are fighting in Park Circus(bridge no 4), AJC Bose Road, CIT Road, Moulali, Park Street, Ripon Street over Nandigram issue and Taslima issue with police smashing 150 cars in the area. Street fights have become common in Kolkata where people fight with the police like born fighters.

It is not known when the peace-loving Bengalis have started becoming violent to put forward their demands. Bengalis were always peace loving lazy people who kept away from violence. But not anymore.
