Comrade Subhas Chakrabarty left us on 3rd August, 2009 at 11.35am at the age of 67 at Kolkata. He was born on 18th March, 1942 at Dhaka. He was cremated on 4th August, 2009 at 8.00pm at Keoratala Mahashashan. He was given Guard of Honour by the Police. His death procession was followed and accompanied by lakhs and lakhs of people from different political background.

Subhas-babu, you will remains in the hearts of billions and billions of Bengali for a long time.

Oh! What a bandh it is! Oh what a bandh!

The 3 top leaders of 3 top parties of West Bengal meet secretly on Sunday the 12th July, 2009. They take some decision unanimously.

Mamata-di (angrily): What is this going on Pranab-da and Buddha-babu? There are no holidays this July? Children are so much eager to enjoy a holiday. So are the elders. They are complaining me to take an action for a holiday. How long will it go on like this?

Pranab-da (in excitement): True, very true. No holidays this July. No holidays before 15th August. That means we will have to work hard like this for the next one month. We have already been working since 1st May, 2009 like this continuously for the last two months. It is high time we should get a holiday.

Buddha-babu (confused): But we cannot declare a holiday just like this. There should be some reason for a holiday.

Mamata-di (in excitement): Why don’t you declare a bandh? A bandh needs no reason. We can call bandh just like that.

Buddha-babu: Look Mamata, nowadays even for a bandh we need a reason. People are not fool anymore. Look how they are going against CPM in all the polls.

Mamata-di (to Pranab-da): Buddha-babu and I had called many bandhs in the last 5 years. Now it is you who will have to call for a bandh Pranab-da.

Pranab-da (in fear): Okay okay Mamata and Buddha, I have got an idea.

Mamata-di and Buddha-babu(in anticipation): What idea? What idea?

Pranab-da: Buddha, you will have to help me in this. You shall command your party men to chase away 9 of our MLAs in the village called Mangalcoat when they will go for helping the poor with aid. In protest, I will call for a bandh this week.

Mamata-di: A bandh should be called on a Friday or Monday so that most of us can have 3 days holidays at a stretch. In these three days people can pack off their bags and run to places like Digha, Puri, Darjeeling, Santiniketan and spend 3 idle days in peace. Others might spend a lazy day watching Ray-babu’s films on their DVD players.

Buddha-babu: Okay then, you can call the bandh on Friday the 17th of July, 2009. I will also ask our transport minister Subhash not to allow government buses to ply on the roads to make the bandh a successful one.

Mamta-di: Pranab-da, please tell you party men to burn down at least 9 to 10 government buses on the streets of Kolkata and Howrah to grant Subhash-da some reason to not allow government buses to ply on the roads. I shall also condemn the burning of buses to create a falsely good impression on people. (in pride) After all I am going to be the next CM.

Buddha-babu: Okay then Mamata and Pranab. So it is finalized that we will enjoy a total bandh on the said date and according to the discussion made above. Cheers to 3 of us!

RESULT: People of West Bengal enjoyed a bandh on 17th of July and had 3 days holidays at a stretch from Friday the 17th till Sunday the 19th of July, 2009.

A Baby Bird that is Me or an Injured Soldier

Currently I am like a baby bird who is unable to fly how much it tries or you can say currently I am like an injured soldier who has all the weapons in his hand and heavily armoured but due to some reasons the injured soldier cannot stand and fight the battle. For that the soldier needs to go to the nearest hospital and get himself treated. He has currently gone to some hospital and he is getting himself treated and thus he would be equiped with more weapons to face the enemy.

I do not know when this phase of my life will be away and the injured soldier will rise again to fight the rest of the battle as it is something which is unavoidable and it has to be fought if he wants to reach his goal.

Largest city store to open in New Town

Calcutta is set to welcome its biggest retail outlet, a 200,000sq ft answer to international giants Ikea and Home Depot, at a time when a clutch of large-format shop stops have downed shutters or are on the brink of closure. HomeTown, the “first-of-its-kind home improvement retail format in India”, will unveil its largest store this week at Bengal Shrachi’s Block by Block mall in New Town. The store will be as big as the entire Forum mall. “We have always shared a special emotional connect with Calcutta and this HomeTown store is an affirmation of our faith in this city,” Kishore Biyani, the CEO of the Future Group, told Metro. The HomeTown chain is owned by Home Solutions (India) Ltd, a part of the Future Group. The Rajarhat shop stop, to be inaugurated on June 20, will be the seventh in the chain after Noida, Ahmedabad, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Lucknow. The store will be divided into three sections — exhibitions, markets and services, with over 150 rooms designed and fitted out on display. It will also provide design-and-build services to customers, with a team of designers on the rolls. The markets section will feature products for living room, dining room, bedroom, kids’ room, kitchen, bathroom, home furnishings, mattresses, eZone (consumer durables and electronics) and Depot (books, music etc). The services section will offer options such as Mr Carpenter, Mr Plumber, Mr Electrician, Mr Painter, door delivery and installation. “This will do wonders for Rajarhat’s sagging public image, which has seen negative perception amplify in recent months over infrastructure issues. A huge destination retail address like HomeTown has the power to draw footfalls from far and wide,” said Rahul Todi, the managing director of Bengal Shrachi. Consumers will also get professional advice on various home-related issues, ranging from interiors, carpentry, plumbing and painting to even grihapravesh puja. Future Group is targeting revenues of Rs 1,800 crore from the chain of HomeTown stores. The Rajarhat address is twice the average size of the other outlets and is expected to generate “substantially higher” revenues than the template target of Rs 200 crore from each store. “Such a gigantic store is an emphatic renewal of faith in Calcutta’s retail climate and will go a long way in boosting investor confidence in these troubled times. The Rajarhat HomeTown will have a large catchment area and a home-solutions format like this will always have takers, boom or bust,” said Abhijit Das of retail and property consultants Lemongrass Advisors. Future Group is also rolling out seven large-format stores in and around the city over the next few months — four Big Bazaar outlets in Salt Lake and Lake Mall (45,000sq ft each), Sealdah (50,000sq ft), Birati (21,000sq ft), a Pantaloons store in City Centre 2 (40,000sq ft) and two outlets in Mani Square — Fashion @ Big Bazaar and Planet Sports. Plant More Trees & Stop Global Warming

Plant More, More and More in your locality. If you are in Kolkata now, you must have experienced the hot days, humid days, everyday without any sign of rain. Have you ever thought why this is happening nowadays? These types of extreme conditions were not a part of our lives even 2-3 years back and our childhood days were much cooler.

Every day now the temperature keeps 3 to 4 degrees above normal and it is unbearable to stay outdoors from 8am in the morning till 6pm in the evening. If anyone does so he is bound to sweat profusely and wet his shirt, trousers and bear the unbearable hot and humidity.

In spite of such pains no one has ever thought of why such things are happening and waiting for the rain to come and make things better but the rain is absent even during the beginning of monsoon season. No one has even thought a solution to curb this problem in our city.

I have thought of a solution and according to that we desperately need to plant trees in our localities after every 10 metres. Such trees should be planted which will grow faster and will give shade to people from the scorching heat of the sun. As trees will transpire water the water cycle will be completed which is not affected but to incessant cutting down of trees and breaking down of trees by storm Aila, so more trees should be planted in our localities so that we can have a cool road to walk even during the hottest days of summer months.

Thus I think global warming can be hindered from entering our social lives and destroying it. Recently I had visited Bangalore and had seen so many trees in every locality of the city no matter whether it is old or new, rich or poor, inside the city or outside. What matters are planning of more trees in Bangalore has made the city go green and by planting more trees has brought a climatic change in the city. The city is pleasant and cool throughout the day and very cool during nights. It is my plan to change Kolkata in to a tree based city with trees every 10 meters, where there should no hot and humid climate and it should be a pleasant place to live.
