I - THEN AND NOW

Those days were nice. These times are good. I was in Kolkata then, now I am in Pune. Those days I used to walk through the lanes and bye lanes of Bowbazar, Central Kolkata searching for a better life. Now I walk along the broad streets of Hinjewadi. In those days, I was close to my parents, my sister, my grandparents & my love Kutu. Now I am close to my roommate Abhisek, my colleagues at Idea Cellular, and my building-mates and now I am 1800 km away from my parents, my room and my city. Then I used to lie down in my own bed at my room, look at the blue sky and dream big. Now I sit at my office dream to make it bigger in life. Those days I used to work for Digital Avenues. Now I work for Idea Cellular-IBM partnership.

Those days I had Gaurav as my closest friend. Now there are scarcity of close friends with whom, I could share my deepest thoughts. Weather in Kolkata was hot and humid during summer and monsoon and pleasant during winter. Weather in Pune is pleasant during winter, monsoon and scorching hot for the 2-3 months of summer. There was a lot of life around during those times but now lifelessness is all around.

There was poverty all around in those times. Now hardly poverty can be found near me. I am still the same in terms of wealth as I was then. People are rich here and very hard working, especially the Marathi women. There was value for money at Kolkata and you could hardly find torn notes. Now there is hardly any value for 10, 50, 100 notes and regularly we could find notes of these figure torn. Opportunity to make it big was less in Kolkata but here in Pune opportunity to make it big is more.

I could hardly ask for a lift from a two wheeler guy then, but now I often ask for it while I go to my office and luckily I get them. People at office then were very friendly and used to help at every step but now people are harsh, rude and alert. Work at Digital Avenues was fun then, but work now at Idea is like a burden thrust upon me. In those days I used to teach Rohan-Rishita at Park Circus – Theatre Road visit Park Circus now and then to meet Kutu. Now I do not have a proper place to visit. I used to Walk doen Rashbehari Avenue, Gariahat, Ballygunge with my Kutu hand in hand. Now I visit places very rare like Dange Chowk, Kalewadi Phata, Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Pune University, Radhika, Deep Restaurant, Senapati Bapat Road, MANPA, Pune Station.

In those days Saturday mornings were lazy, laid back with bread, tea and shingara (samosa). Now Saturday mornings are fast and I visit Hinjewadi IT Park for better opportunity. Life hasn’t changed much now but it is the places, the people and the things around me that have changed. Waiting for a bigger break in life.

I hate Telephones / Cell Phones / Mobile Phones

Cell Phones are something which I hate to carry but I have to for others who love me. These cell phones keep me engaged for long hours when I could have spent my time doing some fruitful work. But these cell phones make me delay my jobs.

People find me anywhere and everwhere, whenever they like through the help of these cell phones but I often cannot get people whenever I want them to be either becuse their cell phone is off or becuse they are busy doing some important work.

Cell phones make my spend hundreds every month on pre paid bills and thus makes me grow poorer with each day. Because of the cell phones anyone can track me who are sitting on these cell phone offices like Vodafone, Airtel or BSNL can screw me up anytime for any made up reasons.

But lately I have identified a method of making cell phones disturb me less by keeping my cell phone switched off when I am not in the mood of speaking on the cell phone thus making it difficult for people who always got me freely available whenever they liked. Only I switch it ON when I need to contact someone. But most of the time I keep it OFF thus peace had again returned back to my life. Thus I can do what ever I like peacefully without a little object disturbing me by ringing itself when I have concentrated on my work the most.

So I think I have solved the issue quite wisely and on the process I have been sucessful in warding off people who used to call me for no reason actually. I have also informed the people who actually need me to send me an SMS as I keep checking my messages periodically even if my cell phone is switched off.

A Puzzle of Love

Some weeks back, I was asked by one of my friend to solve a puzzle sent to him by his girlfriend. I solved it in 2 minutes and received warm accolades from that friend of mine.

The puzzle said: -

"The word "limonyihwiuoteva" if arranged properly becomes a phrase that has the word Love in it. Rest are for you to solve."

So what I did was: -

(limonyihwiuoteva - love = imnyihwiuota)
or (imnyihwiuota - you = imnihwita)
or (imnihwita - with = imnia)
or (imnia - i = mnia)
or (mnia - in = ma (or am))

So the sentence is: -
(i am in love with you)

My school days

This is what I had written in Anirudh Saria's http://www.dbpc2000.com/ in 2005.

WHAT I MISS MOST?

I miss those classes from 8am to 2pm, tiffin breaks, exams, masti we all had, cricket matches, hand cricket, hand tennis, fests where all the boys knew which girls school is coming and which is not, self composed national anthems, bawaalis, free periods, classes of Mr.Raghunath, Mr.Sambhu Charan Dey, Mr.Kapadia, and so on, intra school competitions, passes for Bosco Beat, Bosco Raag, young moms (our boudis) of junior class kids, Mr.Vanjo and Mr. Crouch's Devdas style, Mr. Peter's puns, our unity during bad times(like the one when Father questioned us who banged the desk), "ohms" sessions by Kalyan, Tristan, Abhiroop, Shaon, etc, jharis at every girl outside the school, momo at Krishnaarpan, functions at our field, sports, panus (thanks to P-kaku), baba-baba cry, giving nicknames to all, "Its a game" boy-Sayan Banerjee, kaoramis, Mr. Ranjit Egg-roll sorry Edward Biswas and Mrs.Chitralekha Gupta(who said "Ai Kalyan tumi hashcho kano?"), Somak Sen's erotic incidents that he did at hi s home and there are many more to the list. But above all I miss you all guys who were all great friends in my school days. The url of my group is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DBPCYear2000Passout/

MY MEMORABLE MOMENTS

1. That Chocolate Bomb Explosion that made every body proud to be a student of Batch 2000. And for that we did not get Farewell.

2. Once Mrs Mukherjee said to me "Vaijayanta what are you doing under the desk?" I said " Maam, my pen-is lost" and there was a huge laughter in the History class.

3. Once I got very poor marks in Chemistry exam and Mr.Dey asked all the boys who did badly to solve the question paper. As ever I did not solve it and when asked I said that " Sir, my question paper is lost." by making a sign which is usually made by the umpires in a cricket field to pass the judgement to the third umpire. Seeing this the whole class laughed away.

4. After all the boys were suspended I with Rajarshi Bhattacharya and Soumyadipta went to Shiraz and had Biriyani and Chiken Chaap.

5. Talent contests where I used emulated the voice of Kumar Sanu and bagged the 1st,2nd or 3rd prizes and a boy thought I got the prize because of my dads influence. Which was not true. I also used to sing in each and every class even when the teacher took classes. People listened to me even if they did not like it.

6. Every one asked me that as my daddy is teaching in the same school where I am studying, how could I manage it. They all stared at my beard thinking that I would one day look like daddy. There are many more.

Last night, through Orkut, I had scrapped all my friends through the new feature of orkut where once can scrap all friends at one go.

Hi friend,

Please send me a scrap and tell me,what would you rate me on 10 as ur friend. Feel free to give me your marks as I will not mind even if it is 0 on 10 and vice versa. My friendship towards you will remain the same. So please give me a rank on 10 as ur friend.

Regards,

Vaijayanta.
