The big companies like TCS, CTS, IBM if opens their offices in small towns of India, then it will be a landmark for their expansion in towns of India and it would be a boon for the local students from those towns who have completed their technical degrees and want to work for these biggies but do not want to shift their base to big cities.

Let us discuss about our Bengal. There are some towns like Asansol, Durgapur, Siliguri, Berhampur, Midnapur, Darjeeling, Malda, Howrah, and so on. So if these 3 biggies open their offices in these towns then how will the name sound. Let us check: -

Future India - Highway Guidelines

The golden quadrilateral project was a landmark in the history of Indian highways. Since then no such big project was implemented for Indian Highways. In India the highways though efficiently built are in a very pathetic state. These highways should be categorized into national highways (connecting metropolitan cities), state highways (connecting second class cities), district highways (connecting towns and villages). These highways should never criss-cross one another in a X-ing manner to prevent slowing down of traffic by one type of highways to the other. They should meet at certain points efficiently so that the traffic speed does not get hindered.

Some of the main points we should keep in mind for highways: -
1) There should be separate highways for private cars / buses and trucks (freights).
2) Speed limit should be fixed and in no case should be brought down or up unnecessarily.
3) There should be bye-lanes along the highways near towns and cities so that the daily traffic of these places should not get inside highways.
4) If possible the highways should be elevated if it passes through a city or town to prevent traffic.
5) Proper bus services should be introduced connecting big cities, small cities and towns.
6) No political / social demonstration should be allowed on highways.
7) Slow moving traffics should not be allowed in highways.

If these basic points are followed properly (there are many more), only then we can introduce big projects like bus and other transport systems that can travel through these highways at speeds close to 400 kms / hr. Similarly dedicated elevated lines for rapid transit of trains between big cities can be introduced if given a proper thought. (according to my last to last post)

Future India - Clean India

We often find it very difficult to walk through the streets of India because of the filth and smell that emanates from the different lanes and by-lanes, road sides and other public places be it railway stations or bus terminus. The main reason for the filth and smell is improper dumping of waste materials and human excreta or human urination on roadsides.

If we follow certain basic steps, India would be a much better place to live in.

1) Free public government aided toilets (including urinals) every after half a kilometer in all major cities should be constructed.
2) Proper dumping of household / office / factory waste materials and proper recycling of the waste by the government / municipalities.
3) Concrete roads with no potholes.
4) Footpath at every road / lanes / by-lanes / small roads so that they do not entertain unnecessary accumulation of dust on roadsides.
5) Roads should meet footpaths through proper interfaces just like the British styled roads of Kolkata.
6) Proper drainage systems and no open drains.
7) Awareness among citizens to follow the above steps strictly.

Future India - Connecting Indian Metropolitan Cities

Indian Metropolitan Cities should be connected by rail and road in such a way so that people can travel between even the farthest of cities within 6 hours. Delhi and Chennai / Bangalore should be covered in 6 hours. Kolkata and Mumbai / Pune should be connected in 4 hours. (say if distance is 2000 kms and it has to be covered in 4 hours. So the speed should be 2000/4 = 500kms/hr) It is achievable. Trains in Japan and China can travel as fast as 800kms/hr. So why should we not have trains in India that can travel in 500kms/hr. Currently an aeroplane covers Pune / Mumbai to Kolkata directly within 1 and a half hour.

Similarly Delhi to Mumbai should not take more than 3 hours. Mumbai to Bangalore / Chennai in another 3 hours. Chennai to Kolkata in another 4 hours. Kolkata to Delhi in another 3 hours. It is achievable. I have dreamt of this possibility and it is now up to the infrastructure planners and engineers to make this dream get converted into reality.

Future Power Generation in Kolkata can be done by setting up wind mills (turbines) to produce electricity from wind energy along the banks of river Hugli from Sagar Island to Diamond Harbour on both sides of the river as in these places wind blows always at high speed all throughout day. Then it would look like as it is given in the picture below. Bengal Government must think of such ways of power generation to suffice the need for electricity and fulfill the shortage in these parts of Bengal. If Maharashtra Government can, so can Bengal Government.

Change in Bengal Politics

Bengal Politics has seen a big change from Left Rule to the TMC Rule on 13th May, 2011. It was a Friday. Friday the 13th which was unlucky for the Left Parties who had been ruling Bengal at a stretch for 34 years. Almost three and a half decades ruling a state in India is not a joke. One needs to have character to do so. Left had that under Jyoti Basu for about 24 years and then 10 years under Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. Now, Mamata Banerjee will sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Bengal on 18th May at the Brigade Parade Grounds. People have a lot of expectations from her and some even dreamt of her to be the next Bidhan Chandra Ray under whom Bengal had experiences all around development.

It feels bad for Buddhadeb Bhattacharya who was an able administrator but one wrong step by him (allowing the police to shoot at the villagers of Nandigram) made his government loose the Lok Sabha and now the Bidhan Sabha elections in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

Congratulations to Mamata Banerjee would be too less to admit and acknowledge her perseverance and ability to fight against all odds. She started from a mere party worker and beating MP Somnath Chatterjee from his own constituency to Rail Ministry (a couple of times) to the present post of Chief Minister of Bengal. It is definitely a long way and only time will tell if she can be successful in being an able administrator who can drive Bengal from poverty, debt to the most prosperous state in future and retaining the long lost glory of Bengal.

Left Party (CPIM) did a lot of work for Bengal in terms of farming, panchayat system, infrastructure and cultural areas but was a total failure in economy, healthcare, education and job market creation. Thus Bengal could no more be called a state which thinks matters one day ahead of the rest of India (“What Bengal thinks today, India thinks tomorrow”). It is a matter of time to see whether Mamata can revive Bengal to a different revolution of overall development that her party’s manifesto promises.

We Bengalis are very interesting people. You can categorize Bengalis especially those who are currently staying in West Bengal / Kolkata because of their interests. There are Ghotis (who are Indian Bengalis) and there are Bangals (who are Bangladeshi Bengalis) but moved t o India during partition of Bengal. There are those who are supporters of Mohunbagan and others are supporters of East Bengal in football. In religion there are Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists. In terms of politics there are people who support CPIM (Communist Party of India ), while some supports Congress and other who support Trinamool Congress. There are babus who work in government jobs while some work in IT and other private jobs. Some love to eat Bengali food while some love to go to Pizza Hut for Pizzas and similar modern foods.

There are people who love their Bangaliana (Bengalihood) while some are there who hate it even though they call themselves Bengali and carry their forefather’s surname. There are people who love Kolkata and Bengal while there are some who love any other place in the world other than Bengal. In caste there are Brahmins, Baidyas, Kshatriyas, Benes (Baniyas), Vaidyas, Shudras, SCSTs and OBCs. There are some who love Krishna, Rama, Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Maa Durga, Maa Kali, Maa Saraswati even though they do or do not belong to that religion.

There are lazy Bengalis while there are very active Bengalis Sourav Gangulys and Monotosh Aichs. There are Bengalis who do not have any ambitions while there are Bengalis who are successful like Amartya Sen. There are Bengalis who like to work under others in jobs while there are others who are Business minded like Subrata Roy. There are singers like Kishore Kumar, Manna Deys while there are non-singer Bengalis too. There are actors like Uttam Kumar while there are people who cannot act too. There are politicians like Didi (Mamata Banerjee) while there are other politicians like Buddhadeb Bhattacharya and Pranab Babu.

Thus in spite of all such differences we all are Bengalis and should remain as Bengalis and try to do betterment for our community. Bengali is the 5th largest spoken language ion the whole world. So in all such differences we Bengalis should be united in so much diversity. So let us say together “Banglar Jai, Bangalir Jai”. “Bangaliana” live forever.

Inhuman Working Hours

After working for 2 telecom companies in last 2 years, what I have come to understand is that inhuman working hours are on a rise among the present employees. It is not only restricted to telecom companies. Modern day employees are robbed off from their rest, social duties by promises of extra salaries and perks. Modern day employees are ready to be fooled by such companies only to get some extra money. They work from 9:00am in the morning to 12:00midnight at a stretch even if they are reluctant to do so. It is like robbing them of their basic fundamental rights of getting peace and mental rest. They are also made to work 6 days a week and in most cases they are not paid much for an extra day work. Even they are called on Sundays to work thus making them a mere doll in the hands of employees.

To stop such inhuman activites by the employers the employees should appeal in the court of law or in parliament and pass a bill to reduce working hours to a fixed of 8 hours and 5 days a week. Only them present day generation will get time to mingle with the society and have mental peace and rest which they lack leading to all sorts of mental disorders and health deterioration. These are also leading to unhappy relations with spouses, divorce cases and even suicide and murders.

Employees cannot have proper relationships with their spouses and thus they tend to start extra marital affairs with their colleagues and even same-gender relationships with their colleagues from their offices. Thus it is high time that our government should think something about the working hours, time limits of the young generation so that our generation can also get at least peace of mind and social lives like their fathers and grandfathers once used to have.

Vodafone robbed me of my number 9830540355

The Kolkata Vodafone Prepaid no 9830540355 was bought in 2003 in my mother's name (B. Chattoraj). Since then I used it from Jan, 2004. At that time it was Hutchison Essar. Till 6th March, 2011, I had used this number by being brand loyal to Hutch. (currently Vodafone-Essar). But being loyal was my greatest mistake. I came to Pune on Jan, 2010 and still used the connection on roaming mode by filling Rs 200 talk time every 6 months since I had converted it to lifetime connection.

On 9th March, 2011, my mother visited the Vodafone Shop at CIT Road, Kolkata and they said that since I did not submit the papers they disconnected my number (it was saying 'Sim Card Registration Failed') and to get the number back again I need to convert it from prepaid to postpaid and use it and for that they charged Rs 300. They said since I used the phone in roaming mode for more than 6 months it was also another reason why my no was disconnected. Since the phone was in my mother's name they asked my mother to pay Rs 1200 for a previous postpaid connection that my other had inspite of my mother having paid the amount to them and surrendering the connection. After being a loyal customer of Hutchison-Vodafone-Essar, I should be given privilige to use the number for any time I like with some grace period of submitting the documents (which my mother had already done while buying the connection in year 2003).

Now if anyone from Vodafone does not contact me and give me my number 9830540355 back free of cost, them I will be forced to leave Vodafone and take up another connection for the rest of my life. Also I would promise to never buy any Vodafone connection for the rest of my life. I would also discourage others to buy one. Thus vodafone has lost a brand loyal customer like me and thus they would also loose many such brand loyal customer like me in near future if their policy is to harass customers instead of helping them.

Thus I was bound to write painfully "Vodafone robbed me of my number 9830540355".

Bryam Adams at Pune near Magarpatta City

Last evening as I was returning from office I saw the newly constructed Amanora Shopping Mall (which is just opposite the under construction Magarpatta Shopping Mall) very well lit with big sedans and SUVs entering the complex with eager eyes inside the cars waiting to have a glimpse of Bryan Adams inside the Shopping Mall. Young guys and girls and even middle aged people dressed in their best attires were flocking inside the mall to see him.

Yes, Bryam Adams was in Pune last evening at Amanora Shopping Mall opposite Magarpatta City Mall, just a stones throw away from the Kodre's place at Kirtane Baug in Mundhawa Village where I stay. Tickets were sold at 2K, 5K and 10K prices starting from one month before the event and people did not hesitate to buy tickets at such exorbitant prices to see their singing sensation of whom they have only read in newspapers and watched on television. I had heard about his arrival a month ago from Manish Chandra Malhotra a friend of mine who also stayed on the room beside my room at Mukta Chandra Hostel at Bhujbal Wasti near Hinjewadi-Wakad Bridge.

I waited outside the gates of the Shopping Mall for about 30 minutes to 1 hour to check out whether I can see the famous personality entering the complex but that did not happen instead I saw rich and filthy rich well dressed people arriving at their best cars with their families, friends and dates.

No doubt it was a great experience to see volunteers (young and old) and Maharashtra policemen working hard to keep the narrow stretch of the road traffic-jam free. In the process the police with their long sticks hit poor local people who flouted the traffic rules and were going through the wrong side of the road. That was correct but a bit cunning.

As I entered my room which is about half a kilometer away from the happening place, I heard loud cheering of people, music and voice of the legendary singing sensation's voice hitting my eardrum as it came faintly from far and there was a big halo effect on the sky over the place where the festival was taking place.

I had heard about the success of this song in Kolkata from movie Autograph during the last months of 2010, but never thought that this song would be so famous among the non-Bengalis too. I downloaded the song on 8th of Jan, 2011 at my office workstation for some entertainment during the boring hours at office. Moreover I downloaded this song on the request of one Marathi guy called Suresh Gaikwad at my office. He heard this song from the caller tune of a guy from Kolkata Idea office. Suresh liked the song so much that he immediately asked me the meaning of the song and asked me to download the song “Amake amar moto thakte dao…” for him. I did so and copied the song from my workstation to his and he immediately made the song his ring tone and started hearing the song again and again.

When I reached office next day early in the morning around 7am and to bear the boring hours I played the song in my workstation with a low volume so that people who are sitting next to me from my team can hear the song as well. Two Marathi friends Suhas Pharande and Swapnil Band were sitting next to me and they even liked the song so much that they agreed that the composition of the song, the music and the singer Anupam Roy did a great job in making the song. In the meantime when I went to the washroom the song was over and when I came back I saw the Marathi guys play the Bengali song and enjoying every part of it. Suhas was even trying to sing the song. That time I felt that for liking good music one does not need to learn the language and good music is above any language barrier. Good music has no boundaries or limitations. It can attract anyone anytime.

Later another friend, Mudit Shukla from Chattisgarh also appreciated the beauty of the music from the song “Amake amar moto thakte dao…”. This shows that the song is famous not only in Kolkata among the Bengalis but also among non-Bengalis from all over India and the world. This song has so much potential and it shows the success of singer, composer and lyricist Anupam Roy (Anupam-da). Thanks a lot Anupam-da for creating such good music.

LIVING OF A VIRTUOUS WOMAN

ON THE MANNER OF LIVING OF A VIRTUOUS WOMAN, AND OF HER BEHAVIOUR DURING THE ABSENCE OF HER HUSBAND

A VIRTUOUS woman, who has affection for her husband, should act in conformity with his wishes as if he were a divine being, and with his consent should take upon herself the whole care of his family. She should keep the whole house well cleaned, and arrange flowers of various kinds in different parts of it, and make the floor smooth and polished so as to give the whole a neat and becoming appearance. She should surround the house with a garden, and place ready in it all the materials required for the morning, noon and evening sacrifices. Moreover she should herself revere the sanctuary of the Household Gods, for, says Gonardiya, 'nothing so much attracts the heart of a householder to his wife as a careful observance of the things mentioned above'.

Towards the parents, relations, friends, sisters, and servants of her husband she should behave as they deserve. In the garden she should plant beds of green vegetables, bunches of the sugar cane, and clumps of the fig tree, the mustard plant, the parsley plant, the fennel plant, and the xanthochymus pictorius. Clusters of various flowers such as the trapa bispinosa, the jasmine, the jasminum grandiflorum, the yellow amaranth, the wild jasmine, the tabernamontana coronaria, the nadyaworta, the china rose and others, should likewise be planted, together with the fragrant grass andropogon schaenanthus, and the fragrant root of the plant andropogon miricatus. She should also have seats and arbours made in the garden, in the middle of which a well, tank, or pool should be dug.

The wife should always avoid the company of female beggars, female Buddhist mendicants, unchaste and roguish women, female fortune tellers and witches. As regards meals she should always consider what her husband likes and dislikes and what things are good for him, and what are injurious to him. When she hears the sounds of his footsteps coming home she should at once get up and be ready to do whatever he may command her, and either order her female servant to wash his feet, or wash them herself. When going anywhere with her husband, she should put on her ornaments, and without his consent she should not either give or accept invitations, or attend marriages and sacrifices, or sit in the company of female friends, or visit the temples of the Gods. And if she wants to engage in any kind of games or sports, she should not do it against his will. In the same way she should always sit down after him, and get up before him, and should never awaken him when he is asleep. The kitchen should be situated in a quiet and retired place, so as not to be accessible to strangers, and should always look clean.

In the event of any misconduct on the part of her husband, she should not blame him excessively, though she be a little displeased. She should not use abusive language towards him, but rebuke him with conciliatory words, whether he be in the company of friends or alone. Moreover, she should not be a scold, for, says Gonardiya, 'there is no cause of dislike on the part of a husband so great as this characteristic in a wife'. Lastly she should avoid bad expressions, sulky looks, speaking aside, standing in the doorway, and looking at passers-by, conversing in the pleasure groves, and remaining in a lonely place for a long time; and finally she should always keep her body, her teeth, her hair and everything belonging to her tidy, sweet, and clean.

When the wife wants to approach her husband in private her dress should consist of many ornaments, various kinds of flowers, and a cloth decorated with different colours, and some sweet-smelling ointments or unguents. But her everyday dress should be composed of a thin, close-textured cloth, a few ornaments and flowers, and a little scent, not too much. She should also observe the fasts and vows of her husband, and when he tries to prevent her doing this, she should persuade him to let her do it.

At appropriate times of the year, and when they happen to be cheap, she should buy earth, bamboos, firewood, skins, and iron pots, as also salt and oil. Fragrant substances, vessels made of the fruit of the plant wrightea antidysenterica, or oval leaved wrightea, medicines, and other things which are always wanted, should be obtained when required and kept in a secret place of the house. The seeds of the radish, the potato, the common beet, the Indian wormwood, the mango, the cucumber, the egg plant, the kushmanda, the pumpkin gourd, the surana, the bignonia indica, the sandal wood, the premna spinosa, the garlic plant, the onion, and other vegetables, should be bought and sown at the proper seasons. The wife, moreover, should not tell to strangers the amount of her wealth, nor the secrets which her husband has confided to her. She should surpass all the women of her own rank in life in her cleverness, her appearance, her knowledge of cookery, her pride, and her manner of serving her husband. The expenditure of the year should be regulated by the profits. The milk that remains after the meals should be turned into ghee or clarified butter. Oil and sugar should be prepared at home; spinning and weaving should also be done there; and a store of ropes and cords, and barks of trees for twisting into ropes should be kept. She should also attend to the pounding and cleaning of rice, using its small grain and chaff in some way or other. She should pay the salaries of the servants, look after the tilling of the fields, and keeping of the flocks and herds, superintend the making of vehicles, and take care of the rams, cocks, quails, parrots, starlings, cuckoos, peacocks, monkeys, and deer; and finally adjust the income and expenditure of the day. The worn-out clothes should be given to those servants who have done good work, in order to show them that their services have been appreciated, or they may be applied to some other use. The vessels in which wine is prepared, as well as those in which it is kept, should be carefully looked after, and put away at the proper time. All sales and purchases should also be well attended to. The friends of her husband she should welcome by presenting them with flowers, ointment, incense, betel leaves, and betel nut. Her father-in-law and mother-in-law she should treat as they deserve, always remaining dependent on their will, never contradicting them, speaking to them in few and not harsh words, not laughing loudly in their presence, and acting with their friends and enemies as with her own. In addition to the above she should not be vain, or too much taken up with her enjoyments. She should be liberal towards her servants, and reward them on holidays and festivals; and not give away anything without first making it known to her husband.

Thus ends the manner of living of a virtuous woman.

During the absence of her husband on a journey the virtuous woman should wear only her auspicious ornaments, and observe the fasts in honour of the Gods. While anxious to hear the news of her husband, she should still look after her household affairs. She should sleep near the elder women of the house, and make herself agreeable to them. She should look after and keep in repair the things that are liked by her husband, and continue the works that have been begun by him. To the abode of her relations she should not go except on occasions of joy and sorrow, and then she should go in her usual travelling dress, accompanied by her husband's servants, and not remain there for a long time. The fasts and feasts should be observed with the consent of the elders of the house. The resources should be increased by making purchases and sales according to the practice of the merchants and by means of honest servants, superintended by herself. The income should be increased, and the expenditure diminished as much possible. And when her husband returns from his journey, she should receive him at first in her ordinary clothes, so that he may know in what way she has lived during his absence, and should bring to him some presents, as also materials for the worship of the Deity.

Thus ends the part relating to the behaviour of a wife during the absence of her husband on a journey.

Handsome Pakistani and Indian Cricketers

Recently there has been a controversy on the news media over Pakistani Cricketers accepting money from people to get matches fixed. I have no idea whether they are correct or not. I do not want to know anything about it. What I want to say is that about 2 to 3 decades ago, the Pakistani Cricketers were much more handsome lookwise compared to the present day Pakistani Cricketers. For example think of cricketers like Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and so on. They were much more ‘handu’ compared to the present day cricketers like Salman Butt or Mohammad Sami.

Cricketers like Imran Khan and Wasim Akram were so much famous among the Indian girls. Nowadays you will hardly find Indian girls talking about their liking for present day Pakistani Cricketers. Once reason could be present day Indian cricketers like Irrfan Pathan or Yuvraj Singh are more handsome in looks and looks much better than their Pakistani counterparts. So we can assume that popularity of present day Indian Cricketers have risen compared to the popularity of present day Pakistani Cricketers.

I - THEN AND NOW

Those days were nice. These times are good. I was in Kolkata then, now I am in Pune. Those days I used to walk through the lanes and bye lanes of Bowbazar, Central Kolkata searching for a better life. Now I walk along the broad streets of Hinjewadi. In those days, I was close to my parents, my sister, my grandparents & my love Kutu. Now I am close to my roommate Abhisek, my colleagues at Idea Cellular, and my building-mates and now I am 1800 km away from my parents, my room and my city. Then I used to lie down in my own bed at my room, look at the blue sky and dream big. Now I sit at my office dream to make it bigger in life. Those days I used to work for Digital Avenues. Now I work for Idea Cellular-IBM partnership.

Those days I had Gaurav as my closest friend. Now there are scarcity of close friends with whom, I could share my deepest thoughts. Weather in Kolkata was hot and humid during summer and monsoon and pleasant during winter. Weather in Pune is pleasant during winter, monsoon and scorching hot for the 2-3 months of summer. There was a lot of life around during those times but now lifelessness is all around.

There was poverty all around in those times. Now hardly poverty can be found near me. I am still the same in terms of wealth as I was then. People are rich here and very hard working, especially the Marathi women. There was value for money at Kolkata and you could hardly find torn notes. Now there is hardly any value for 10, 50, 100 notes and regularly we could find notes of these figure torn. Opportunity to make it big was less in Kolkata but here in Pune opportunity to make it big is more.

I could hardly ask for a lift from a two wheeler guy then, but now I often ask for it while I go to my office and luckily I get them. People at office then were very friendly and used to help at every step but now people are harsh, rude and alert. Work at Digital Avenues was fun then, but work now at Idea is like a burden thrust upon me. In those days I used to teach Rohan-Rishita at Park Circus – Theatre Road visit Park Circus now and then to meet Kutu. Now I do not have a proper place to visit. I used to Walk doen Rashbehari Avenue, Gariahat, Ballygunge with my Kutu hand in hand. Now I visit places very rare like Dange Chowk, Kalewadi Phata, Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Pune University, Radhika, Deep Restaurant, Senapati Bapat Road, MANPA, Pune Station.

In those days Saturday mornings were lazy, laid back with bread, tea and shingara (samosa). Now Saturday mornings are fast and I visit Hinjewadi IT Park for better opportunity. Life hasn’t changed much now but it is the places, the people and the things around me that have changed. Waiting for a bigger break in life.

IDEA Cellular charging extra money above Rs 650 Unlimited Usage Plan

I am an IDEA NetSetter User. My Net Setter number is 8805020116. My name is Vaijayanta Chattoraj but in NetSetter Bill it is written by mistake of the outlet man as Vijayanta Chattoraj.

My DOB is 8th October, 1981. My Address is: c/o Dnyanoba Damu
Jamdade, Gurukrupa Niwas, Bhujwal Wasti, Tal Mulshi, Wakad, Pune 411057.

I have enrolled the Rs 650 unlimited usage plan of IDEA NetSetter.

Every month my NetSetter bill is increasing by Rs 50 to Rs 60.

In the month of March my Current Month Amount charge was Rs 640.13

In the month of April my Current Month Amount charge rose to Rs 716.95

In the month of May my Current Month Amount furhter charge rose to Rs 766.95

Since I have enrolled for the Rs 650 unlimited usage plan for IDEA NetSetter, every month my IDEA bill should not cross Rs 650.

Still I cannot understand why has my bill amount rose to Rs 716.95 in April and Rs 766.95 in May.

I should not be charged for unlimited usage and download of data through NetSetter for Rs 650 unlimited plan as the offer is unlimited. But currently I am being charged for downloading of data and internet usage beyond Rs 650.

Could you please look into the matter let me know why I am being charged amount more than Rs 650 every month even when I am a Rs 650 unlimited usage customer.

Purnachandra Chattoraj - Hare Krishna Hare Rama

My grandfather's elder brother Sri. Purnachandra Chattoraj is no more with us. On Tuesday the 11th of May, 2010, he left his family and his disciples at his home in Burnpur, Asansol, West Bengal, India. He passed away in his sleep and did not wake up anymore. He did not have any children so he left his wife behind. He was around 97 years old. His disciples would be very sad because of his departure but due to old age he was suffering a lot.

I was fortunate to meet him only thrice in our life time. He was such a modern man with so much fluency in English that anyone would call him a scholar in English Language. He received his primary education during the British Days and that is why his English was so well refined. He was also a Scholar in Sanskrit and Bengali.

He was very close to my daddy, my uncle and my 5 aunts. They used to go to his quarter in Burnpur during their childhood and spend good time with Purna-dadu and his wife. They were so much loved in their house. Still my dad used to visit him 3 - 4 times a year when he used to visit Bolkunda, our village house. He also used to love his younger brother, my dadu, Late Pt. Sri. Sanat Kumar Chattoraj a lot.

He was an aesthetic person, a Vaishnavite and was always drawn towards the worship of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (an incarnation of Vishnu / Krishna). He had written many books in the name of Lord Chaitanya. He was also a follower of Prabhu Jagabandhu and Mahanambrata Brahmachari. I regret I could never take any photo of him through my camera, but I am lucky to shoot his video through my dad's handy cam when he came to Bolkunda to attend the last rites of his younger brother, my dadu, Late Pt. Sri. Sanat Kumar Chattoraj which we still have stored at our home. I remember he cried a lot on that day and when he saw he hugged me and we cried a lot in rememberance of dadu.

I wish he would live long and wish more that his soul rests in peace in heaven.

What is happening with India nowadays? Lights of Eden Gardens, Kolkata are suddenly getting dim and close to off while the cricket match is going on. Thank God the match was not called off that day.

Again, the pitch of the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, New Delhi is being declared unfit after the match is half way on. The match got called off.

What is all this happening with India? Is this a conspiracy to demean India's image? What do you say friends?

Why is the winter chill setting in early this year in Kolkata?

This is simply because there is low levels of pollution in the sky of Kolkata this year. The Government of West Bengal had been quite instrumental in pulling off old buses and old auto rickshaws (more than 15 years old) from the roads of Kolkata which used to run in kaata-tel (burnt oil) and thus increase the levels of pollution vastly. They have also been successful in converting the oil run auto rickshaws to green auto (Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) run autos). They have also increased new volvo buses that cause less pollution and are fuel efficient.

Thus due to the constant efforts of our West Bengal Government and other authorities the levels of pollution could be reduced to a large extent. So this made pollution levels come down. So the suspended particles (that used to trap the heat every year inside the city sky) was not present this year. Special thanks to Mr. Subhas Dutta for creating awareness among the people of Kolkata about the rising levels of pollution. Thus the heat escaped this year and as a result the winter chill set in early this year in Kolkata.

New JNNURM Volvo Buses - Kolkata

After coming back to my town Kolkata from Bangalore on the month of June, 2009, I had written about the Red Coloured Vajra Buses that ply on Bangalore streets from Bangalore International Airport to different parts of the city. At last the West Bengal Government has been instrumental in launching similar buses in Kolkata under the funds from JNNURM ( Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission) Trust. (see the picture below)

New JNNURM Volvo Buses that have been launched at Kolkata (on 19th September 2009) are Volvo buses but they charge the same Rs 4, Rs 6, Rs 7 and Rs 8 from travellers. They are a signature of comfortable travelling at the least cost in the World. Such Volvo buses are the answers to the Minibuses and the White Coloured Mini buses that ply on Kolkata which are very uncomfortable. They had only one door and 15-16 passengers were enough to make the buses jampacked. These buses were dark, dirty and very uncomfortable. The blue public buses and the government buses though dirty were much better when it comes to spacious interiors.

While in comparison these Volvo buses are more neat and tidy, spacious, airy, with first-aid boxes, comfortable sitting arrangement. I just loved the progressive way West Bengal Government has launched them with progressive mindset and my salute to Mr. Ranjit Kundu the Honourable Transport Minister of West Bengal to have given the green signal for plying such comfortable buses at the same rate which is quite cheap compared to the same buses in other cities of India. I have heard form sources that more 1000 such buses are going to be launched in the streets of Kolkata in the coming months. Love Live Mr. Ranjit Kundu Sir and West Bengal Government. World's Top Economies - A Market Research

Emerging economies are smaller than the developed countries – but they are growing faster and opening up, leading to greater investment opportunities than ever before.

There are two methods of GDP calculation: nominal GDP attempts to compare countries using current exchange rates to give an assessment of their clout within the global market. Purchasing Power Parity or PPP GDP, on the other hand, tries to take into account that one dollar can buy more in some countries and less in others. It is a better gauge of the internal size of each market.

In the nominal GDP method, we can see that the developed world leads the pack, but that China has already broken into this exclusive club.

When we look at PPP GDP, China, India, Brazil and Russia are all within the top 10.

Developed countries have already reached a saturation point, and thus expand less than emerging economies, where possibilities and opportunities are ripe, investors are ready to take risks, and consumers are demanding more goods and services than ever before.

His death procession was followed and accompanied by lakhs and lakhs of people from different political background.

Mamata-di (angrily): What is this going on Pranab-da and Buddha-babu? There are no holidays this July? Children are so much eager to enjoy a holiday. So are the elders. They are complaining me to take an action for a holiday. How long will it go on like this?

Pranab-da (in excitement): True, very true. No holidays this July. No holidays before 15th August. That means we will have to work hard like this for the next one month. We have already been working since 1st May, 2009 like this continuously for the last two months. It is high time we should get a holiday.

Buddha-babu (confused): But we cannot declare a holiday just like this. There should be some reason for a holiday.

Mamata-di (in excitement): Why don’t you declare a bandh? A bandh needs no reason. We can call bandh just like that.

Buddha-babu: Look Mamata, nowadays even for a bandh we need a reason. People are not fool anymore. Look how they are going against CPM in all the polls.

Mamata-di (to Pranab-da): Buddha-babu and I had called many bandhs in the last 5 years. Now it is you who will have to call for a bandh Pranab-da.

Mamata-di: A bandh should be called on a Friday or Monday so that most of us can have 3 days holidays at a stretch. In these three days people can pack off their bags and run to places like Digha, Puri, Darjeeling, Santiniketan and spend 3 idle days in peace. Others might spend a lazy day watching Ray-babu’s films on their DVD players.

Buddha-babu: Okay then, you can call the bandh on Friday the 17th of July, 2009. I will also ask our transport minister Subhash not to allow government buses to ply on the roads to make the bandh a successful one.

Mamta-di: Pranab-da, please tell you party men to burn down at least 9 to 10 government buses on the streets of Kolkata and Howrah to grant Subhash-da some reason to not allow government buses to ply on the roads. I shall also condemn the burning of buses to create a falsely good impression on people. (in pride) After all I am going to be the next CM.

Buddha-babu: Okay then Mamata and Pranab. So it is finalized that we will enjoy a total bandh on the said date and according to the discussion made above. Cheers to 3 of us!

A Baby Bird that is Me or an Injured Soldier

Currently I am like a baby bird who is unable to fly how much it tries or you can say currently I am like an injured soldier who has all the weapons in his hand and heavily armoured but due to some reasons the injured soldier cannot stand and fight the battle. For that the soldier needs to go to the nearest hospital and get himself treated. He has currently gone to some hospital and he is getting himself treated and thus he would be equiped with more weapons to face the enemy.

I do not know when this phase of my life will be away and the injured soldier will rise again to fight the rest of the battle as it is something which is unavoidable and it has to be fought if he wants to reach his goal.

Calcutta is set to welcome its biggest retail outlet, a 200,000sq ft answer to international giants Ikea and Home Depot, at a time when a clutch of large-format shop stops have downed shutters or are on the brink of closure.

HomeTown, the “first-of-its-kind home improvement retail format in India”, will unveil its largest store this week at Bengal Shrachi’s Block by Block mall in New Town. The store will be as big as the entire Forum mall.

“We have always shared a special emotional connect with Calcutta and this HomeTown store is an affirmation of our faith in this city,” Kishore Biyani, the CEO of the Future Group, told Metro. The HomeTown chain is owned by Home Solutions (India) Ltd, a part of the Future Group.

The Rajarhat shop stop, to be inaugurated on June 20, will be the seventh in the chain after Noida, Ahmedabad, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Lucknow. The store will be divided into three sections — exhibitions, markets and services, with over 150 rooms designed and fitted out on display. It will also provide design-and-build services to customers, with a team of designers on the rolls.

The markets section will feature products for living room, dining room, bedroom, kids’ room, kitchen, bathroom, home furnishings, mattresses, eZone (consumer durables and electronics) and Depot (books, music etc). The services section will offer options such as Mr Carpenter, Mr Plumber, Mr Electrician, Mr Painter, door delivery and installation.

“This will do wonders for Rajarhat’s sagging public image, which has seen negative perception amplify in recent months over infrastructure issues. A huge destination retail address like HomeTown has the power to draw footfalls from far and wide,” said Rahul Todi, the managing director of Bengal Shrachi.

Consumers will also get professional advice on various home-related issues, ranging from interiors, carpentry, plumbing and painting to even grihapravesh puja.

Future Group is targeting revenues of Rs 1,800 crore from the chain of HomeTown stores. The Rajarhat address is twice the average size of the other outlets and is expected to generate “substantially higher” revenues than the template target of Rs 200 crore from each store.

“Such a gigantic store is an emphatic renewal of faith in Calcutta’s retail climate and will go a long way in boosting investor confidence in these troubled times. The Rajarhat HomeTown will have a large catchment area and a home-solutions format like this will always have takers, boom or bust,” said Abhijit Das of retail and property consultants Lemongrass Advisors.

Future Group is also rolling out seven large-format stores in and around the city over the next few months — four Big Bazaar outlets in Salt Lake and Lake Mall (45,000sq ft each), Sealdah (50,000sq ft), Birati (21,000sq ft), a Pantaloons store in City Centre 2 (40,000sq ft) and two outlets in Mani Square — Fashion @ Big Bazaar and Planet Sports.

Plant More, More and More in your locality. If you are in Kolkata now, you must have experienced the hot days, humid days, everyday without any sign of rain. Have you ever thought why this is happening nowadays? These types of extreme conditions were not a part of our lives even 2-3 years back and our childhood days were much cooler.

Every day now the temperature keeps 3 to 4 degrees above normal and it is unbearable to stay outdoors from 8am in the morning till 6pm in the evening. If anyone does so he is bound to sweat profusely and wet his shirt, trousers and bear the unbearable hot and humidity.

In spite of such pains no one has ever thought of why such things are happening and waiting for the rain to come and make things better but the rain is absent even during the beginning of monsoon season. No one has even thought a solution to curb this problem in our city.

I have thought of a solution and according to that we desperately need to plant trees in our localities after every 10 metres. Such trees should be planted which will grow faster and will give shade to people from the scorching heat of the sun. As trees will transpire water the water cycle will be completed which is not affected but to incessant cutting down of trees and breaking down of trees by storm Aila, so more trees should be planted in our localities so that we can have a cool road to walk even during the hottest days of summer months.

Thus I think global warming can be hindered from entering our social lives and destroying it. Recently I had visited Bangalore and had seen so many trees in every locality of the city no matter whether it is old or new, rich or poor, inside the city or outside. What matters are planning of more trees in Bangalore has made the city go green and by planting more trees has brought a climatic change in the city. The city is pleasant and cool throughout the day and very cool during nights. It is my plan to change Kolkata in to a tree based city with trees every 10 meters, where there should no hot and humid climate and it should be a pleasant place to live.

Last month I visited Bengaluru and I had the good opportunity to travel by AC Vajra Volvo Buses that Bengaluru Transport Department has launched in the city for safe and hassle free transportation of commuters from one part of the city to another. The above is the photo of the air conditioned red colour Vajra Buses that ply across the city from Bengaluru Inernational Airport (BIA) to different parts of the city.

Such buses are a real need in our city Kolkata too. Our transport department should look forward to launch such buses in Kolkata so that people can have easy transportation in AC Volvo buses across the city. These buses are not only big and spacious but they take sharp turns even through the narrowest of lanes and they are so fast that they travel from one place to another in half the time that other buses do.

Bengaluru has launched around 500 such buses and so I request Kolkata to launch at least 100 such buses. This would definitely change the transportation scenario of Kolkata. People would reach their destination early and the journey would be hassle free. Though the fare is a bit expensive in Bengaluru, in Kolkata we could devise pass systems or bring down the fares for making more common people especially regular commuters travel through such buses.

People think that SRK has not done a good job by removing Sourav from the Skipper's position on the words of Coach Buchanan and I too think so. On the contrary I also think Sourav would have scored less runs as a captain so it is a wise decision to take Brendon McCullum as the new skipper. He can really hit the ball hard.

I have some good memories of the Maidan of Kolkata. It was called Gorer Maath then which meant Field of the Fort. Gor means Fort in Bengali and Maath means Field. By fort we refer to Fort Willam which is present on the western side of the Maidan.

As a child, I used to go to the Maidan with my Guggy (my maternal grandfather) in his kochi kolapata (light green) colour Fiat (Premier Padmini) in the 1980s. We used to set off for Maidan from our house at Bowbazar at around 5pm. People who accompanied us were Dilu, Ratan, Ludu-da, Tepi and many more. They used to be my co-players at the limited overs cricket match we used to play at Maidan.

On reaching Maidan we used to get so much excited that after getting off from our car, we (Dilu and me) used to somersault as many times as we could till we used to get exhausted. On being tired we used to refresh ourselves with Thums Up, which was the only option for cold drinks at that time (Coke had long left India for USA and Pepsi was not born then in India). We also used to have phuchka and jhalmuri / bhelpuri.

When we wanted to plant the stumps (reminds me of the famous saying by Tony Greig - "From stUmp to stUmp and from wickIt to wickIt") on the ground, mounted police officers (who were actually army men on horsebacks) used to come and used to break our stumps or threaten us to remove the stumps from digging on the ground. Actually the army men were there to look after the safety of the Maidan and thus they used to do rounds and keep a strict vigilance inside around the Maidan to keep a watch on the big Maidan.

There was a triangular field in the middle of the big Maidan where there used to be 3-4 small golf courses with many holes (not the hole of Mint with the Hole) for beginners I guess. I don’t know who used to play golf there but whenever I went there along with cricket kit, I used to take my hockey stick there and tried to hole the ball with my hockey stick and once I did that I had to pick the ball from those holes using my hand after a lot of difficulty as the holes were quite small. I feared if there might be many snakes or rodents which might bite my fingers.

I also used to visit the Maidan with my mummy and daddy from our Park Circus flat on a cab or by our car. As we approached the Maidan from S.N. Banerjee Road, the evening sun from above the Eden Gardens used to shine on our eyes thus making it difficult for us as well as the person who is driving the car to look in front.

As we approached the Maidan, we used to enter the Maidan from Red Road approach (which was both ways then), we felt like we have reached a place filled with fresh air very much comparable to heaven. The whip of fresh air on us made us breathe out lungs out to the fullest. It made us get free from all our tensions and forget all our sorrows and pains.
Thus the visits to the Maidan was so much enriching for us that we used to visit the heavenly place once a week and sometimes twice or thrice a week during vacations.

Thus I could never think of a place in Kolkata better than the Maidan to get myself rejuvinated.

I hope most of you know that I am a Software Engineer by profession. The current recession worries me. I believe on the best can survive in such a situation and even the mediocre will be a target of this recession ghost.

I have always been the best in whatever I did. Be it studies, competitions, blogging, photography or even jharifying / pataofying girls / women, I have always been the Best. But I think I am still not the best when it comes to professional life. I see many around me who are remarkable in the skills when it comes to Software Development. I have acquired many skills in these 3 years of my working but still I believe I need to be the Best to survive this fierce completion and recession.

So after a lot of thinking, I have come to the conclusion that it is my name which plays the x-factor. I strongly believe that Vaijayanta is the best name a guy like me can have as the name starts with V and by numerology it lies on the Number 1. Still the name Vaijayanta does not suit the guys who are into software development.

I have noticed that people who are good in software development share some common names. These names include names like Kaushik, Debasish, Amitava, Shantanu and so on. I know many people who share these names and are the Best in Software Industry. So I wish my name was Kaushik or Debasish or Amitava or Shantanu and so on.
